The Breton commune is linked by its past to the legendary kingdom of Cornouaille. The barons and counts of Pont L’Abbé formed one of the largest seigneuries in the area. In the Middle Ages, they were responsible for the construction of many of the castles that are now the pride of Brittany on the French tourist map.
